Alumatrend is an oral suspension combining the antacids aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide with the antifoaming agent simethicone, in a 240 ml bottle (Debeiky / Trend Pharma, Egypt).

• Aluminium hydroxide: Neutralises gastric hydrochloric acid (forming aluminium chloride and water) and raises gastric pH.
• Magnesium hydroxide: Neutralises gastric acid; unabsorbed magnesium retains water in the bowel by osmosis, which can produce a laxative effect.
• Simeticone (simethicone): Physically inert; lowers the surface tension of gas bubbles so they coalesce and are expelled; not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
