• Desogestrel: Inhibition of ovulation; increases cervical mucus viscosity (Cerazette SmPC).
• Ethinyl estradiol: As part of an estrogen-progestogen combination: inhibits ovulation by suppressing the mid-cycle LH surge, thickens cervical mucus and makes the endometrium unreceptive to implantation.
