• Bacterial lysate: Antigenic structures are taken up by the intestinal epithelium and prime gut-associated lymphoid tissue, increasing specific (IgA) immunity across mucosal tissues, including the respiratory tract, and stimulating non-specific defence mechanisms (animal data: secretory IgA, phagocytosis, T-cell activation, cytokines).
