• Hypersensitivity to drotaverine or any excipient; severe hepatic impairment; severe renal impairment; severe heart failure (low-output syndrome). • Limited data in pregnant women; animal studies showed no direct or indirect harmful effects on pregnancy or embryo-fetal development, but caution is required when prescribing in pregnancy. • Drotaverine: Inhibits phosphodiesterase IV, raising cAMP and inactivating myosin light-chain kinase, which relaxes smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal, biliary, urogenital and vascular systems; it does not inhibit PDE III, so it has no major cardiovascular effects (Romanian SmPC).
