• Coagulation disorders due to faulty formation of factors II, VII, IX and X caused by vitamin K deficiency or interference with vitamin K activity: anticoagulant-induced hypoprothrombinaemia (coumarin or indanedione derivatives), hypoprothrombinaemia secondary to antibacterial therapy or to factors limiting vitamin K absorption/synthesis (e.g. obstructive jaundice, biliary fistula, sprue, ulcerative colitis, coeliac disease, intestinal resection, cystic fibrosis), and other drug-induced hypoprothrombinaemia.Population: AdultsDailyMed (U.S. National Library of Medicine)

• Oral phytonadione will not counteract the anticoagulant action of heparin; the coagulant effect is not immediate (INR improvement may take 1-8 hours), and interim blood/component therapy may be needed in severe bleeding.
