Aspetovent 10 mg/ml injection, one 3 ml vial (Eva Pharma, Egypt): caffeine (methylxanthine respiratory/CNS stimulant) for parenteral use; the salt form (e.g. caffeine citrate 20 mg/ml equivalent to 10 mg/ml caffeine base, as used for apnoea of prematurity) was not confirmed by Egyptian sources.

• Caffeine: Most effects are attributed to antagonism of adenosine A1 and A2A receptors; in apnoea of prematurity it acts mainly as a CNS and respiratory-centre stimulant (increased minute ventilation and response to hypercapnia, reduced diaphragmatic fatigue).
