• Risk of fatal medication errors from inadvertent intrathecal administration (severe pain, myoclonus, seizures, arrhythmias); IV only, never IM; inject slowly. Convulsions reported, mainly with high IV doses in CABG surgery. Visual disturbances: discontinue if needed; regular eye examinations with long-term use. Upper-tract haematuria: risk of urinary obstruction. Thromboembolic risk: use only with strong indication in patients with thrombophilia; caution with hormonal contraception.
