• Mupirocin: Produced by Pseudomonas fluorescens; inhibits bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, arresting protein synthesis; bacteriostatic at MIC and bactericidal at the higher concentrations reached topically; no cross-resistance with other antibiotics. Minimal systemic absorption; absorbed drug is rapidly metabolised to inactive monic acid.
