• Symptomatic response does not exclude gastric malignancy. Acute tubulointerstitial nephritis, C. difficile-associated diarrhea, bone fractures with long-term high-dose use, severe cutaneous adverse reactions, cutaneous and systemic lupus erythematosus, vitamin B12 deficiency and hypomagnesemia have been reported. Each 20 mg capsule contains 1100 mg sodium bicarbonate (304 mg sodium): consider sodium load in sodium-restricted patients; chronic use with calcium may cause milk-alkali syndrome; caution in Bartter syndrome, hypokalemia, hypocalcemia and acid-base problems.
