- Bactericidal; inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding penicillin-binding proteins.
- Inhibits renal dehydropeptidase I, preventing renal metabolism of imipenem.
- Imipenem: Bactericidal; inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding penicillin-binding proteins.
- Cilastatin: Inhibits renal dehydropeptidase I, preventing renal metabolism of imipenem.
