• Enquire about previous hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins or other beta-lactams. Serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity reactions (including anaphylactoid and severe cutaneous adverse reactions) have been reported and may progress to Kounis syndrome; they are more likely with a history of penicillin hypersensitivity and in atopic individuals. • Animal studies show no harmful effects and limited human data do not indicate an increased risk of congenital malformations. In one study in women with preterm premature rupture of the foetal membranes, prophylactic amoxicillin/clavulanic acid may have been associated with an increased risk of necrotising enterocolitis in neonates.
