• Alogliptin: Inhibits DPP-4, slowing inactivation of incretin hormones (GLP-1, GIP) and so increasing glucose-dependent insulin release and lowering glucagon.
• Pioglitazone: PPAR-gamma agonist that decreases insulin resistance in peripheral tissues and liver, increasing insulin-dependent glucose disposal and reducing hepatic glucose output.
